Once you’ve found the perfect videographer to capture your wedding, you’ll want to sign a contract. The contract is an important document to make sure both you and the videographer are clear on all the details. Having everything in writing will allow you and the videographer to review or reference it at any time. Before you sign your contract check to make sure the following items are included:
Videographer and Event Details
The contract should start out with yours and the videographer’s name and contact information. Also included should be the correct date, exact number of hours included in your package, starting time, and exact addresses of all the locations the videographer will be working at. Make sure the name of the actual videographer(s) shooting your wedding, and the number of assistants, are listed on the contract.
Equipment
The contract should list the number and kind(s) of cameras that will be used and a guarantee that a backup camera will be on hand in the event of equipment failure.
Your Video or DVD
The contract should include the number of videos or DVDs you'll receive, and complete package details. Dates should be provided for when your unedited video will be ready, when you'll receive your finished, edited video or DVD, and the approximate length of the final video or DVD.
Costs
Essential contract items also include total cost (itemized if possible), overtime fees, reorder prices (if you decide to order additional videos or DVDs later), deposit amount required, balance amount and when it’s due.
Policies
Make sure the videographer’s cancellation and refund policies are in writing on the contract.
Special Instructions
Specify on the contract any special instructions such as people and events the videographer must get recorded, interview questions that must be asked by the videographer and who should be asked, and anything special you want added during the editing phase such as specific songs or effects.
Signatures
The videographer’s signature should be on the contract. Once you’ve reviewed the final contract and confirmed all of the information is accurate, you should sign the contract and make a copy for your records for future consultation.
